Three new swine flu cases in Delhi

New Delhi: Two adults and a five-year-old boy Saturday tested positive for the influenza A (H1N1) virus in the national capital, taking the total number of affected people in India to 53.

"Three more people have tested positive for the swine flu Saturday, including an indigenous case where the patient contracted the flu without going abroad," Delhi Health Secretary J P Singh said.


The five-year-old boy who came back from Canada and was admitted to the Airport Health Organisation Hospital (APHO) two days back, has tested positive.

First swine flu case reported in Mumbai

A 27-year-also man who travelled from Canada has also tested positive for swine flu at the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital.

The third is an indigenous case in which a woman contracted the flu from her sister and nephew who had come from the US and tested positive June 17.

"They have been kept in isolation and their contacts are being identified and given tamiflu. We now have 15 swine flu cases in various hospitals in the capital," he said.

The capital accounts for five of the six human-to-human transfer cases in the country.

The World Health Organisation has reported 44,287 laboratory confirmed cases of influenza A(H1N1) infection from 89 countries as of June 17. There have been 180 deaths across the world.


Two swine flu patients successfully cured in Coimbatore

Coimbatore: Two swine flu cases have been successfully cured in Coimbatore, according to medical authorities here.

Dean of Coimbatore Medical College hospital, Dr Kumaran, on Saturday said they were the only two confirmed swine cases in the city.


“In Tamil Nadu, only two cases have been confirmed in Coimbatore. The two cases have been already treated and sent home after cure,� said Dr Kumaran.

He added that one more swine flu suspect, who recently returned from California, has been admitted to the hospital.

His test reports have been sent for examination and results are awaited.

Earlier, the World Health Organisation (WHO) had noted that the spread of H1N1 flu in Australia Britain, Chile, Japan and Spain has nudged the world closer to a pandemic.

Reportedly, the new strain of swine flu has infected almost 30,000 people in over 70 countries including 145 fatal cases.

Mexico, United States and Canada have borne the brunt of the illness while research work is still on to formulate an effective vaccine to counter the pandemic.
